Our guest for this episode is Dr Claudia Natanson, CEO at the UK Cyber Security Council.
The Council is funded by the Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and acts as an umbrella body for a range of professional bodies in cybersecurity.
It is also the organisation tasked with delivering Chartered status for cybersecurity professionals.
Alongside that, the Council sets standards for the profession and publishes an ethics code. It acts as a voice of the industry, and promotes cybersecurity as a career.
That is a comprehensive “to do” list.
As a result, the Council is very well placed to assess the health of the cybersecurity industry across the UK.
And, as Dr Natanson says, we face a number of challenges, including recruitment, retention, diversity, and ensuring organisations understand what they need from their cybersecurity teams.
More also needs to be done to support cybersecurity professionals, especially CISOs, in their roles.
But what, exactly, does pouring the perfect pint of Guinness have to do with a successful career in cyber?
