Testing is an essential part of any technology deployment. And cybersecurity is no exception. Testing, exercises and drills are all part of day to day security operations, or at least they should be.
But should security teams take testing to the next level?
Stress tests aim to push systems as far as they will go, to uncover weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Only by testing, its supporters argue, will we know how, or even if, a system will perform under pressure.
At the same time, though, CISOs need to understand the impact of stress testing on operations and, above all, on people.
In this episode we look at how does stress testing differ from pentesting and cyber exercises, how security teams capture the right lessons from the testing process, and how far is too far when it comes to putting systems, security teams and even the organisation as a whole to the test.
Our guests are Chris McKean, solutions specialist at NetApp, and Simon Edwards, founder and CEO at SE Labs.
